“The Void” – A Film Review

Name: The Void (2016)
Genre: Horror
Rating: 8/10

Taglines: “There is a Hell. This is worse” & “A new dimension in evil”

PLOT : Shortly after delivering a patient to an understaffed hospital, a police officer experiences strange and violent occurrences seemingly linked to a group of mysterious hooded figures.

MY TAKE : This movie is a great nod to the 80’s movies I love, with the massive use of practical effects. Is it perfect? No, the pacing is rough at times, the acting is a bit over the top, but nothing that is a deal breaker. I have already heard that it is very polarizing. Like all movies, check it out for yourself. This pulled me back into movies like The Thing where the effects are in your face. No pull aways, CGI, or shit lighting hiding transformations. There’s just crazy ass effects in your face!

At times the film seems long. Sometimes they are building tension, sometimes its awkward silences. The cult people looked great and using the police lights on them gave me chills. Daniel Fathers took a weird aggressive stance on his acting in the film. It made me laugh more than anything. Ellen Wong and Aaron Poole both played their parts very well and Kenneth Welsh is one creepy bastard!

I’ve already watched it twice. I really enjoyed this movie and can’t wait to see what they do next. I also LOVE that its Canadian!! Check it out and let me know what you think below!
