“The Babysitter” – A Film Review

Name: The Babysitter (2017)
Genre:  Horror, Comedy
Rating: 9/10

Tagline: None… but it should be “Why is he shirtless?”

Twelve-year-old Cole Johnson is a naïve kid who is bullied by everyone except his babysitter Bee. Bee turns out to what he should have been afraid of all along.

I watched this on the recommendation of Grant Markham and it did not disappoint. Here’s the deal, this is my SECOND review of the film. I went into it with weird expectations, honestly I think I’ve been overly hard on films lately, and that’s why I haven’t written many reviews. That and time. So I watched it, and Grant and I had a conversation about it. I had some real nit-picky shit that I didn’t like about the film, and he started pointing out some of the really great things and I felt like we watched a different movie.

So I sat down and watched it for a second time. Honestly, its fucking fantastic! Now, don’t do what I did and compare it to all the horror trash that’s been coming out lately. This is a true horror comedy mix. There’s laughs, gore, an interesting story, a Queen song, and some of the best foreshadowing in years. The second run through I picked up on so many more things, like the car at the end… that’s all I’ll say.

The film is really well acted as well. Samara Weaving does a great job of going from the heroine to “The Big Bad”. Judah Lewis also has a fantastic transformation from “pussy” to hero. Then you add the hilarious Andrew Bachelor with Hana Mae Lee & Bella Thorne you have some piss yourself funny moments. For both Grant and I Robbie Amell is the show stealer though. He kills every scene he is in… pun intended.

This is one not to miss. It has a Scott Pilgrim vs. the World meets Home Alone with a dash of Scream built in. Thanks for the recommendation Grant!
