“Finding Dory” – A Film Review

Name: Finding Dory (2016)
Genre: Computer-animated / Comedy / Adventure
Rating: 8/10

Let’s start this off by talking about Finding Nemo. It was a film that came out back in 2003. Although I don’t believe I watched it until around 2005 – 2006 when it became my daughter Alex’s favourite movie to watch on repeat. We tried to cycle other films in rotation as much as we could but there was no getting away from it. What I’m thankful for is that the movie is REALLY GOOD. Say what you want its fantastic, and completely tolerable for adults. MDI watches Ellen DeGeneres’ ELLEN show, and Ellen has been pushing for a sequel for years. Thirteen years later it finally hits theatres! Let’s start with the trailer.

Trailer :

The friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish reunites with her loved ones, and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.

I had my reservations going into this, but only because I could probably re-enact the first one. And thirteen years is a long time to wait in-between films. Could they recapture the magic of the first one? The answer is YES! Was it as good as Nemo? No, not in my opinion. But that could be due to the connection with Nemo and my daughter. Anyway, the creators did a fantastic job with bringing back some of the characters from the original to bring us back into the universe… or ocean. Even better is they didn’t over due it. And they managed to not completely retell the first movie and call it a new movie. That has happened WAY to often. Instead we are introduced to some really cool characters like Hank the octopus voiced by Ed O’Neill. This movie is smashing records left and right and you should check it out. With or without kids it will entertain and enlighten you.

Now go watch it yourselves! Now, run along kiddies…
