“A League of Their Own” – A Film Review

Name: A League of Their Own (1992)
Genre: Comedy / Drama
Rating: 10/10

The other day MDI & I watched A League of Their Own. It came out in 1992, but if for some reason you haven’t seen it check out the trailer.

Trailer :

OK… first things first. The trailer doesn’t do this film any justice. I had never seen the trailer until I looked it up for this review, and I’m shocked. Don’t judge it by that turd.

Here’s what the deal… The movie is based on a fictionalized account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. An old Dottie Hinson is going to an exhibit at the Baseball Hall of Fame and it brings her back to 1943. World War II is in full swing and the MLB players are drafted to war. To keep the league going during war times, they decided to get women to play. We follow Dottie and her kid sister through their journey in the league.

This movie is amazing. It has EVERYTHING! This movie is filled to the tits with heart and comedy and humanity. It starts out and you think that it will be your normal average “heart warming tale”. Then Jon Lovitz comes in as Ernie Capadino, AAGPBL scout… and he KILLS IT. He has some hilarious one-liners and it really kicks up the movie and gets things moving. Then once Tom Hanks comes in BOOM it becomes one of the best movies to come out of the 90’s. There are so many iconic lines throughout the film some landed on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest film quotes of all time.

But what the hell do I know, watch it yourselves! Now, run along kiddies…
