“The Shelter” – A Film Review

Name: The Shelter (2015)

Genre: Drama, Horror, Thriller
Rating: 7/10

Tagline: “He was chosen.”

PLOT : A homeless man finds shelter for the night within a lavish abandoned two-story house. He eventually discovers that he is not alone and the premises won’t let him leave.

MY TAKE : This movie is really interesting head trip. Michael Paré does a great job as Thomas Jacob a down on his luck drifter on an extremely emotional and spiritual journey. There are a lot of spiritual symbols and tones throughout the film but I personally didn’t find it “too preachy”. Once Thomas enters what seems to be an abandoned home, he is put to the test both physically and mentally fighting for any humanity he has left. The CGI work is top-notch and like an acid trip but with crystal clarity. The contrast is  bright and gorgeous.

The way I gauge any movie I review is simple… would I watch it again? Yes I would. I think this is a fantastically acted, shot and packaged film. Sit back, pay attention and enjoy. You may just find some relatable material that can spark your own journey to closure or self-evaluation. Check it out!
