2013

It has been quite a year here at The FYFC. A year of creativity, a year of change but most importantly a year of growth. 2013 was the year that FYFC went from an inside joke and turned into something so much more. It turned into a creative outlet. It all began with some inspiration from Mr. Kevin Smith. We began listening to multiple podcasts on his SMODCAST network and his message became very clear “Just sit down with the people in your life and talk, tell stories, talk about what is going on in the world and record it because you never know who will hear your message and what that conversation will turn into.” We heard this message loud and clear and one night we sat down in front of my mac with some mics and hit record. The first podcast was bad, it was bad sound quality, no format whatsoever, there was dead air quite often, hell we didn’t even have a name for it, but we did it. We recorded our first podcast and through the terrible quality and dead air we found a voice. Kevin was right, turning everything off and having a conversation was some of the most fun we had had in a long time. We took a look at the way we were recording and made some changes in the studio. The second episode had a name Lights Out Radio and was leaps and bounds beyond the first. We had headset monitors and real mics to record with. By episode 3 we actually had a format for the show and an iTunes podcast. Out of that first podcast we found a creative outlet where we were able to be our true selves. That first podcast turned into a second one with plans for more and the podcasts turned into the blogs and website. We also have plenty of plans for the future.

In the late summer we had some changes Fear started a new job up north where he is away for 2 weeks and home for 1. FYFC came to a halt for a few months. Fear’s new job provided a better life for his family so FYFC stopping production for a few months was a welcome sacrifice. Fear’s new job also encouraged me to seek a better life. I was very unhappy and in need of a change so in the fall I walked away from my job of 5 years and my career in IT, a career that had been my only career since I was 18. I have started a new career in sales and while it has been a bit of a bumpy start I can honestly say I am happy. Time will tell if this was a smart move or not but it was a move I needed to make.

I look forward to 2014 with hope, hope that my new career is successful, hope that Fear continues to be successful in his career, hope that my family and friends remain happy and healthy, and of course hope that FYFC continues to grow. The website launch last week was done out of boredom to be honest, but it ignited a spark. A spark that then started the blogs and that starting making arrangements for the podcasts to return. So I guess I am also full of hope that that little spark will ignite into a fire of creativity and growth for FYFC. Look for the new podcasts in the coming weeks and for even more in the coming months.

Happy New Year Everyone
